Digging through some old memorabilia in my trunk,
I recently came across this "lovingly-created" booklet made
in 1984 which lists every #1 record on CKOC during the Sensational
Sixties.
During this time period, CKOC often ran their "Mid-Day Music
Specials" between 1-4 p.m. , which catered to the baby-boomers,
replaying many forgotten oldies. "The Number One Radio Show,"
"The Top Ten Hits of All Time," and "The Top 100 of
the '60s" were among them.
One of the best specials was when they played the Top 100 of every
year of the decade, which is how I was introduced to some rather obscure
and fantastic oldies, such as "Gaslight," "Next Plane
to London," "My World Is Empty Without You," "Candy
Girl" and "The Boat That I Row," to name but a few.
Unfortunately, I was not able to skip school to listen to these specials,
but I caught what I could on my lunch and when I got home at 3:30.
Hence, I do not own complete listings of CKOC's annual year-end charts
for the 1960s.
My recent re-discovery of this handmade booklet, however DOES contain
every record to reach CKOC's chart summit (though at the time I apparently
did not take note of how many weeks each song spent at the top). This
must have originally aired during March Break 1984 in order for me
to have been able to document the entire listening experience.
